Transitioning Your Fleet to EVs: What the Data Says After 2 Years
We analysed anonymised telemetry from over 4,000 electric two- and three-wheelers running delivery duty cycles across six Indian cities for twenty-four months. The results should encourage anyone planning a transition — with caveats.
Real-world range averaged 82% of rated range in moderate weather, falling to 71% in peak summer with sustained highway speeds. Battery degradation after two years averaged 8.6% — better than most operators feared, but with a wide spread: vehicles routinely fast-charged to 100% degraded nearly twice as fast as those charged to 85%.
Cost per kilometre, including charging and maintenance, came in at ₹1.1–1.4 for two-wheelers versus ₹2.8–3.3 for equivalent petrol vehicles. Maintenance visits dropped by 60%. The operational headache moved from fuel to charge scheduling — which is exactly where telematics earns its keep, turning state-of-charge across a fleet into a dispatch input.
Our conclusion: the economics already work for predictable urban duty cycles. The fleets that struggle are those that electrify without visibility — range anxiety is really just missing data.
